Post Sleep Command, please help
Hi
Right i am nearly there but i'm stuck on one thing, can someone please explain how i set up a post sleep command, i have inserted what i think is the command but i don't know what to put in the other boxes.

Thanks GroverH, i have PM'd you but the above is not working, well i set it up and then ran a manual back up task but the pc didn't do anything
just carried on whirring away :-(

Its states the stand by command has been executed but it didn't do anything

I don't have time to respond right now but the c:\acronis-standby.cmd is not the same name as C:\standby.cmd in the attachments. Using the browse feature to the correct file helps to prevent path errors, etc as compared to when you just type the path.
The first step is to get the power command to work from a desktop shortcut. Until you have that working properly, do not waste you time inserting as a post command. Temporarily insert a pause command inside the batch file just prior to the exit command. Then test it as a desktop shortcut so you can see if you have an error message. After you get the pause, with or without message, then you can press the enter key to have the power command run its test.

Change the command to the below. The -standby-time-ac is one word. The below worked for me as I just finished testing. I ran the desktop shortcut test with the pause and the command was wrong due to the spaces. After I corrected, the computer went into standby.
POWERCFG -change -standby-timeout-ac 2

Sorry, that now appears to work, i have taken the pause out and changed the time to 1 minute so im now going to try and incorporate this in TI

In my post #1, I accepted your command example and merely suggested that a batch file would work better. Here is a suggested test file.
@ECHO OFF
POWERCFG -change -standby-timeout-ac 2
pause
@EXIT
copy the command from here and paste into your notepad file and save the changes.
then open the Windows explorer and browse to the actual folder. Right click on the file and drag it onto your desktop as a shortcut.
Then you can test the program by clicking on the desktop shortcut.
Once you are done testing and it works, then open the file again in Notepad and remove the pause and save the changes.
Also, don't forget that the setting of 2 minutes will be the new default setting after it has been run so your computer will go into standby automatically after 2 minutes in future non-use. If you do not want your future use effected you will need to edit the power configuration settings; or create a new additional cmd file desktop shortcut with a normal standby setting and you can run the desktop shortcut as needed to extend the time period before the machines goes into auto standby.

I have included the batch file i made, i then placed this into the root of the C drive, i then highlighted the file and created a shortcut on the desktop.
when i double click the file i have a screen come up that says
Press any key to continue........
If i press the key then nothing happens, even if i wait 5 minutes?

The press any key to continue indicates the file has no errors so the next step would be to open the power settings from the control panel and look at the various settings especially to make sure the sleep setting is activated and you should find it has a setting of 2 minutes. Also note my added comment in the preceding post.

Thanks Grover, seems to work ok now, i have incorporated it with TI and works ok,
But i must admit that im disappointed in having to change the power config every time a back up is made :-(
Please can you show me how to create the batch file so i can extend the pc running time by several hours?

Have you established that the special power commands are really necessary? Some people need special settings and others do not. It mostly depends upon the how the power settings are configured on each computer. My default settings for the computer to go to sleep is 15 for battery and 30 for ac.
If you wanted to create a batch file to set the power sleep default settings to 30 minutes for AC, then produce a duplicate of the other cmd fileand change the 2 to 30 and save the file to your desktop. Then whenever you start up after a backup (which contains your 2 settings), then you could click the 30 desktop shortcut and that would become your default setting until you run the backup task with 2 setting .

MudCrab posted a better solution at this link. One advantage of his solution would appear to be that his does not change the default power configuration.

Thanks Grover so much for all your help, The thread you were suggesting was my original thread, i have now replied
i had also asked this question in a windows 7 forum and got a reply back last night using pretty much the same method as Mudcrab had suggested and like you say it doesn't change the power config so i dont have to worry about that :-)
i have included i screen shot of the set up in case this may help others.
