Question about consolidating Backups

Thread needs solution

Hi I am still running TI 2012. I have come to realize from practical use that when restoring an unbootable system from winPE rescue media (v2.1 in my case), I can only successfully restore from a full backup- if I choose an incremental backup, it always fails (all incremental backups were verified). This does not appear to be documented in the knowledge base. So I assume that I can only expect to be able to restore to the desired incremental backup by consolidating it and all previous increments down to the last full backup?
is consolidating a risky move, should I only perform it on copies of the backups? Does anyone have experience with this issue/ care to elaborate?

That has not been our experience. Restores can be done from Incremental backups, provided all previous backups in the chain are present and valid.

I do agree that a full backup is safest, as it depends on no files other than itself.

Thank you for responding Tuttle, I have validated (at great expense of time) the incremental backups in both standard and in the winPE environment, yet the incremental restore ALWAYS fails from each and every increment (but successfully restores from the Full backup) . I am hestitant to consolidate the incrementals for fear that they would corrupt the good Full backup (despite TI 2012 reporting them as valid) I mean if they truly were valid then they should be able to restore successfully from any of the "valid" increments?
