Read error (0x70003)
Hello,
Have been using ATI 9.0 (build 2,337) for quite some time without a problem. In a previous attempt to backup it failed with the following message in the log:
Operation with partition "C:" was terminated.
Details:
Read error (0x70003)
Rebooting the PC a few times solved the problem. Tried again today and the same error appears, even after rebooting multiple times.
A search of the Knowledge Base turns up a somewhat different error message that still contains Read error (0x70003) and talks about cleaning up the Windows Temp folder (run %temp%), but I'm not sure what to remove and, in any case, there is not much in the folder. Previous backup was ~98GB on a 250GB drive. Current free space is 194GB. Drive being backup is 160GB with 31GB free.
Searching on this forum I find reference to varied error messages containing Read error (0x70003), so it appears this is not specific to any particular cause.
What can I do to resolve this?

Update...Success!
Was finally able to successfully make a back up and wanted to pass along what I tried and saw in case it was of help to others.
I ran chkdsk and, even though it indicated it was running in 'read only mode' since I'd not specified the 'f' parameter, I noted near the end of the process several lines of 'removing index for file...', or something similar. I would have copied the text but when completed the Command window closed.
Ran ATI again. As before, initially the flickering lights on the internal and external drives were flickering indicating disk activity (reading from the former and writing to the latter). After a few minutes, when ATI indicated 1% progress, the external drive light would stop flickering (no activity), the internal drive light would go solid and, after 15-30 seconds the error message would appear. Checking the log revealed the message as in my original post.
I then ran chkdsk on the external drive. This ran much faster than for the internal drive with the messages ending with something about the process being completed (again, the Command prompt window closes upon completion of the process providing no opportunity to copy the text).
Re-ran ATI and now it was successful.
So my conclusion, right or wrong, is that something fixed on the external drive solved whatever was creating the read error.

Another update...Failure!
Failed to make an incremental or differential backup, returning the dreaded "Operation with partition "C:" was terminated. [Details:|Read error (0x70003).
Hard re-boot, chkdsk on both C: and external backup drive, same error.
Is there any solution to this?

Run chkdsk /r for more thorough test that also looks for bad sectors.
Run disk cleanup, or CCleaner, to clean out temp files.
