reading backed up data
Im using home 2011, with a 1 tig external Fantom Green Drive. How do i see the data that is backed up on the Fantom with out a RESTORE. I made a folder in the Fantom named "helper" then went in Acronis and found the "folder" that i wanted to back up. Backed it up, But now if i go to the Fantom drive I can see the backup, but when I click on it ,it won't open it right their. It seemes to bring me to Acronis, then C, then I have to click on C,then the next folder, then the next folder till i get to the folder it was put in.
Must be an easier way.
I usally save it in my c drive under Backup, and all i have to do is Click on Backup, then the Data for that date, and it opens.
Tks...... and the Acronis 2011 home works Great sooo far. except for this.
tks

Hi Pat Sorry to sound stupid. But i just want to make sure that i do this right. You said"o see what has been included in an incremental/differential backup, you have to use ATI, the explore and recover function"" say i backed up a file for a billing program when I was going to shut down. After the back up you say that i have to go to the recover function. will the file be their so that I can just double click on the file and it will open so that I could see the data, and know that it has been b.up.
Now the program says do you want to back up, i'll say yes, and it shows from were in the program and to the destination folder. The destination folder is in the c drive,"BACKUP" when i go into the c drive/backup, all i have to do is double click on the Date that i want to see, and it open up all the dirrerent data in that date of the backup.

another Q.... when i backup to make an image copy, i will be telling it to go to the external drive, will Acronis make its own folder? or do i make one[image 08-29-2012]. So if i have a crash i could restore everything. Sorry for all the questions

John,
It is not advisable to backup to C:\
You should connect a USB disk to your computer and backup to that disk.
The key value of ATI is to be able to do a complete disk and partition backup (ie an "image") of your system disk. If that disk dies, you would just buy a new disk, put it in your computer and restore the disk and partition backup you have. Everything would be back as it was before...
To answer your question, you should see a TIB file in the destination of the backup. Remember, when you double click on the TIB file, it will show you all the data since the last full backup, *not* only the files that were backed up that day.
Alternatively, you can launch ATI, go to "explore all versions" or whatever the exact label. This will open the backup explorer which shows, at its bottom, a list of back ups. You click on one and you can see above the content of that backup.

I know that they dont have windows xp on them, thats what im running. Could i just Format one and put that in the computer and back up the C drive on that? or do i have to put a OS. on it.

John,
You can use the spare drive(s) in your system. After installing the drive and booting into Windows open an elevated (run as Admin) command prompt and run diskpart. Carefully select your new drive (Open Windows Disk Management at the same time to get the disk number for use in diskpart) using the following commands, "list disk" (followed by pressing enter) (shows a list of all of your disks with a disk number assigned by Windows, see the disk management Window to double check), "select disk "X"" (where "X" is the disk number of your spare drive), "list disk" again (to be sure the correct disk is selected), and then "clean". (This will clean the drive of all traces previous use). After the "clean" command is complete, type "exit" and press enter to exit the diskpart program, and then close the command prompt Window. In Disk Management click the refesh button on the toolbar, and Windows should report the disk as not initialized. Have Windows initialize the newly discovered disk as an MBR disk. You can also format the disk while in Disk Management. Your disk will be ready to use after formatting.
I have a spare drive in my computer that I use for Acronis backup files. When backing up from one internal drive to another, Acronis backup speed is great compared to backing up to USB2/USB3 connected drives. I do keep backups on external drives as well for safekeeping.
