Rebooting problem after restoring a backup image
Hi,
I've restored my multiimages backup with Acronis Boot CD, but this time Windows does not restarts, (all the other times in the past, i have restored this backup mages, and I never met any problem to reboot).
I can't boot anymore my Windows 7 (64 bits). The system reboots just after displaying the "Startup message".
I've tried many solutions :
- Repairing MBR does not work :
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
- Reinstalling my first Windows system image (just done before buying True Image 2013) doesn't not work too...
- Trying to check/uncheck the MBR partition during the restoring process (when CD loading the tool with steps...)
The only thing that works, is reinstalling a new Windows 7 with the original DVD (just to verify that all my system is fine).
After a new Windows installation, the reboot works well.
How would you do ?
I need help to restore my backup system please...
Regards
Cedric

Hi,
I have 2 disks and each one contains 2 partitions :
- D1 : F:, G: (disk #0 -> appears in the Windows 7 disk manager )
- D2 : C:SYSTEM , D: (disk #1 -> appears in the Windows 7 disk manager)
(E: blu-ray drive)
and my SYSTEM is apparently on the disk #1.
My backup has captured the whole C: SYSTEM partition (and has captured a little MBR partition too).
If my backup doesn't contain the boot partition. How may I restore my Backup ? what is the process please ?
Today, I have reinstalled a new Windows 7 that reboots and start perfectly, so how could I restore my backup, keeping the boot stuff clean ?

If you want to retain the Windows installation that you just created, then you cannot restore the OS partition. You could choose to restore the other partitions.

Sorry, I apologize I misspoke, but no, I do not want to retain the current Windows installation, I just want to retain and keep the current boot configuration (created by the Windows installation) that allows Windows to start normally.
Of course, I need to replace the system with my SYSTEM Acronis Backup (this is fundamental for me).
In 2 words, i want to make my Acronis SYSTEM bootable after the restoration of the backup image.
Is there any solution ?

Launch Windows Disk Management, take a screenshot of it showing all drives, and post it here.

Ok thanks, I will do it in few hours (at home).
Maybe a workaround would be to disconnect my data disk (F: and G:) before restoring... to encourage the system to boot on the correct disk ?

It's possible this is user error. When in the recovery environment, drive letters will differ from what you see in Windows. That's not an Acronis issue, it's the nature of the Linux-based recovery environment. You should assign names to each of your partitions so that you can identify them without relying on drive letters. Otherwise you could easily restore to the wrong partition/drive.

Are Disk 0 and Disk 1 each 2 TB drives?

Yes, absolutely (and there are identical... same model).

Maybe could I try the "James F" procedure found at (even if it concerns Windows 8) :

What do you think about this idea ? (i will not take the risk before reading your reply ;-) )

Hi,
I'm just waiting for your reply ;-) I'm afraid to not find THE solution...

Hi Tuttle,
I've found my problem : an automacatally updated bios operation (that I've never planned) has replaced my BIOS.
Doing that, an important parameter (SATA Mode Selection) has been reset to its initial value "IDE".
After setting it to "AHCI" for my SATA disks, all is fine now ! :-))
So, I would like to thank you for your help.
Regards.

An automatic BIOS update, not initiated by you? I've never heard of that. BIOS updates are risky, so they should never be automatic.
Glad you got it working.

Yes, I never understood how could this update happened (probably a key blocking the keyboard or I don't know...).
I did not had a lot of time to read the message in progress, but i'm sure it was something like "Update Bios...".
Anyway, all is fine now.

Maybe this device DualBoot option can explain this updating I've met...
