Recommendation for an alternative to TrueImage!
Let's just say that I am furious. I have been running Acronis TI 2009, the now infamous build 9796, and every third or fourth time that I was plugging in a USB drive key (or ipod), the PC would blue screen. I have had this problem for four months now, and it has crippled my machine, as you can imagine. I have had arguments with the store I bought the machine from, as I thought this was a hardware failure; never in my dreams did I suspect that my backup software could be causing the BSODs. But a search of these forums has confirmed it.
So, which product product would you recommend as an alternative to TI? I don't care if doesn't have as many features, I just want something that is _stable_.
And, in case you are wondering, I don't care if Acronis has fixed this problem in a later release. Since discovering that TI has been responsible for these crashes (and file losses from the BSODs), they have well and truly lost my goodwill. I am have no intention of giving them a second chance.

Fungus,
Try a search of these forums, for "BSOD", or "blue screen", or "USB" or "ipod". Thread #3033 in this forum is a good place to start. It is precisely the problem I was getting.
The BSOD is not tickled by plugging in a USB device while TI backing up, or restoring, or anything like that. And I am not sure what you mean by "I would never run TI with any extra USB equipment installed". Are you saying that TI is not compatible with any USB device?
I don't consider reverting back to an earlier version of TI 2009 an acceptable option for me; like I said earlier, I refuse to be bitten again by Acronis.
Oh - I am quite happy to pay for software! I am not restricting myself to freebie backup solutions.
Cheers,
Christopher Moran

TrueImage HOME product **** horribly years after years. I don't know why but Acronis echo workstation is a better version because i have never had any problem with it. I always have a problem with the 'home' version.

im actually in debate as well. Either this or Norton Ghost i think.
I also seen/found a couple good free ones. one called Fbackup doesnt do the whole maindrive image tho[i dont think]. Just personal data backup. then also seen one didnt look back called backup4all - http://www.backup4all.com/
also nova backup - http://www.novastor.com/
im probably going to end up using ghost and fbackup as well.
i don't like the fact here havent got a straight answer on any of my questions yet for me to even finish or actually even buy this program yet. plus the fact have to freakin pay for support. even after you buy the program. thats freakin crazy. forget that. in my eye's its like this.
No good support = no buy program.

I use Nova and Ghost 14. Both are good.
Without doubt, Ghost 14 is more easily recoverable for a full disk image.
NovaStore has better recovery for data files.
That being said, I think Acronis is better than both for the money.
My 2c worth.

Hello all,
I am really sorry for not replying such a long time.
Christofer, on behalf of the whole Acronis team I'd like to apologize for the inconvenience you've experienced. As Fungus mentioned, the issue with USB devices and BSOD was fixed in the latest build of the software, which you can download from your account.
Andy, could you please clarify: what problems with Acronis True Image Home you have? I'll do my best to resolve it.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Thank you.
