Recover C Drive

Using Win XP Pro SP3, TrueImage V.8 (still)
PC has 2 physical drives. The 0 drive has four partitions, C, D, E, & F.
Over the past two weeks I've had some problems that I can't resolve and am ready to restore my C: drive from a month-old backup.
This will be the first time I've done a restore using any software and, more important, a restore of my C drive. I've been doing a lot of cogitating on what I should do to prepare for this, eg, what data to save that will be lost on the restore - some emails, for example.
Can anyone offer some advice or tips on doing this?
