Recover-cd hangs when pressing 'browse' to select backup location.

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to make a backup of my pc with the recover-cd. It boots up fine, then I tell it to make a full backup of two of my partitions. When I click the 'browse' button to select the location for the backup files, the application hangs. I cannot do anything else than reboot the pc. I've tried TI Home 2010 build 6053 (bootcd created from Windows) and build 7046 (iso-file downloaded from Acronis website).
It's a core 2 duo machine running Windows XP Pro SP3, although this should not matter since I'm running from the boot cd.
One more 'special' thing: It runs an Adaptec 2405 raid controller in Raid 1, but the drive and its partitions are correctly recognized by IT.
Does anyone have similar problems, and even better, know a work-around for this issue?

Hello Jeroen,

Let me assist you.

I may recommend you to try the following workaround:

  • Boot the computer from Acronis Bootable Media (Full version);
  • Hit F11 key after the "Starting Acronis Loader..." message appears and you get to the selection screen of the program;
  • After you get the "Linux Kernel Settings" prompt, please add "acpi=off noapic" parameter (without quotes) to the end of the Linux kernel command line (so it will be "quiet acpi=off noapic");
  • Click OK button.

If this will not help you, please gather Linux System Report along with Windows System Information and submit a support request.

Please reply to this thread if you have any questions.

Thank you.

Thank you for your support. Indeed, this solved the issue! Although after pressing 'browse' the application seems to hang at first, but after +/- 20 seconds it becomes responsive again and I get the screen where I can select the location for the backup. After selecting the location, the backup was created flawlessly.

Thanks again!
