Recovery To A Different Drive

Thread needs solution

I have a new computer with Windows 8 with True Image 13 installed and a 1T hd. True Image was installed, the hd was partitioned basically in half. An image was created of the operating drive (C:) and now I want to put that image on the other partition (G:). How do you do that? I did that no an old computer with Windows 7 and two physical hd's using True Image 12.

Any help would be appreciated.

Charles,

I'm not sure how the Windows 8 boot manager will cope as you'll need to add the second instance of W8 to the main boot manager, though this can be done.

Just to throw a curve ball at you I would consider doing something slightly different that Windows 8 is designed to cope with.

1. Using True Image convert your tib image to VHD.

2. Copy the tib image across to your second partition (note to others, you don't actually have to have a second partition for VHD files).

3. Add the VHD to the main boot menu, this can be done either via a command window or download somehting like EasyBCD or VisualBCD editor and use those programs to add the VHD to the boot menu.

You will now be able to at boot menu time select which version of the OS you want to use.

Otherwise, in True Image click on restore, select the partition image and select the empty partition as the destination. I think you might find the second BCD might need repairing.

I've only used the VHD method in Windows 8.

Colin,

Thanks for the response. The issue I'm having is when I do the restore, the second partition doesn't show up as an optional location. It flashes for a second than disappears. I think I will try reloading Acronis True Image..
