Recovery problems

Thread needs solution

My previous computer stopped working because of a hardware failure. So I got a new computer, with a new system hard drive. Win7 Professional 64bit.
I installed Acronis 2015 on the new computer and wanted to use it to restore a few files from my backups which are stored on a removable drive.
But Acronis couldn't find any of the backups that were on this drive. So I couldn't restore anything!
It seems that some log files or something were stored on the old hard drive, and do not exist on the new drive.

Isn't the point of a backup-and-recovery software that it helps you to get back your data after system breakdowns?
I guess I must be doing something wrong, could you please tell me what?

You can try using Windows Explorer as outlined at the bottom of this link:

Erm... as I said, it was only about a few files in this case. For a few files the method described in your link (thank you!) works fine.
But if it was my data drive that needed recovery, that would mean 2.5 Terabyte of data, thousands of files. Are you really suggesting I should restore them manually???

Not at all, you should be able to recover the backup using the boot or recovery media which is the preferred method to recover a system disk.

There is a button in the backup pane of the program that says "Add Backup" that can be used to manually add existing backups to the backup list.
