Recovery of WIN C:/ and WIN-System Partition // how to handle Acronis Backup Log-Files?

Thread needs solution

Dear all,

following Situation: I have 2 Disks named as
1. System-partition and C:-Drive with the WIN7/64 installation
2. D:-Drive with all Data (also the myDocuments / myPictures / ...)

I have 3 Backup Session in place:
- weekly (Saturday) incremental Hard-Drive-Backup (System-partition and C:-Drive)
- weekly (Sunday) incremental Data-Drive-Backup (D:-Drive)
- daily incremental small data-file-Backup

If I want to Restore The WIN-System (C:/ - and System) for example on a Wednesday with
the Backup from Saturday, I overwrite the Backup-Log-Files from Sunday to Wednesday
and I get in trouble with the sequence of Backupfiles for D:/-Backup and Filebackup.

How can I avoid such trouble?
A) Is it possible to change the standard-Folder for Backup-Logs to D:/ (if yes, how?)
B) Can I Backup the Logfiles before Restoring C:/ and restore them directly after C:/ Restore
(if yes witch files/folders do I need to Backup
C) is there any other Solution?

Best regards Jens

Hi Jens,

can you please clarify which trouble you face after system restore? Do backups fail?

Thank you.

Hi Anna,

Yes, the integrity of backup sets is not correct, I had some trouble with that, the ARCRONIS didn't find the core (full) backup and its sets.
For example: DATA-Backup day1 full, day 2 to 6 incremental. If I restore last SYSTEM-Backup on day 4, in the ACRONIS Data Base only contains the Data backup from day 1 to 4 and auto-starts after reboot a next incremental dada-backup. What is the right backup-set now, day1-4+new one? What about the two old backups from day 5 and 6? ACRONIS find these two backups and show it in the "Backup-summary".

Hello Jens,

thank you for your reply.

Acronis True Image should handle such situations in the following way:

Let's imagine that we started a daily incremental backup of files and folders "FileBackup" on 12. January using an external disk as destination. Then on 16. January we created a full system disk backup ("FileBackup" has 4 versions at the moment of system backup creation)

and continued our incremental backup chain "FileBackup" till 20. January ("FileBackup" has 9 versions).

Then we restored our system backup. After system restore we get the situation, when backup destination contains 9 versions, but Acronis True Image know only about 4 of them, because backup database is located on C: drive and was restored to the state of 16. January.

"FileBackup" chain will be continued starting from version 5 (which will be created right after system restore), but since in backup destination we already have a backup file named FileBackup_inc_b1_s5_v1, new file will be named FileBackup_inc_b1_s5_v1-2.

All subsequent backups in the chain will follow the same pattern.

Thank you.
