Rescue Media has a bug - when only 1 drive is recognized, it gets letter C:

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have a computer with a new sandy cpu with h61 chipset. Therefore, the acronis rescue media (created with the plus package, I'm using a usb flash drive, NOT a CD or DVD) doesn't recognize the CD Drive. Therefore, I only see the USB drive, which gets C: . I see no harddrive YET, because the harddrive is empty, no partition on it, no nothing, factory new. I've stored my image (~11 GB) on the usb flash drive, and whenever I try to recover from the usb flash drive, it starts, but like 10 seconds later, it asks me about the next volume of the image. That I can't provide, because now the harddrive got the letter C: and the usb drive IS GONE. I can workaround that if i assign a new partition to the harddrive and reboot, then the harddrive gets C: and the usb flash drive gets D: , but i want to recover from the usb flash drive to brandnew harddrives with no reboot.

Any idea?

Greetings, Chris

Chris:

That's unusual behavior, but then again Linux recognition of USB devices has always been hit or miss. Since you have the Plus Pack, have you tried creating a boot ISO based on Windows PE instead of on Linux? I've found WinPE recognition of USB devices to be rock solid. Perhaps the WInPE based recovery environment will not exhibit this unusual behavior.
