[RESOLVED] Creating full system image on NAS device completes - but BACKUP reports as CORRUPT when trying to verify

Thread needs solution

Created new backup job, selected Synology DS212+ NAS device as the destination. Job runs and completes fine - no crashes. After the backup is created, I try to VERIFY the image as separate process by right clicking on the TIB file and choose True Image / Archive / Validate

Error message instantly appears:

Failed to open backup N:\My Backups\ASUS\ASUS-FSX_full_b1_s1_v1.tib. It may be inconsistent or corrupted. Error code: Event Code: 0x01EF0013+0x000B041D+0x00040007+0x0000FFF0+0x80070003

USB backup jobs verify fine. Some kind of bug in the NAS process, I think.
Also, FYI - Acronis doesn't automatically detect the Synology device - I have to choose it by 'browsing' my mapped drive list. That doesn't agree with the marketing which says the product will auto-detect NAS devices.

FOOTNOTE:  Acronis Support SOLVED this for me - I needed to create a backup task and use the fully-qualified UNC path to the Synology Diskstation DS212+ (running DS 4.1 Firmware)  See my post below...

PS: Re above- I --can-- 'mount' the image - but I cannot VERIFY it --

Again, this issue is now RESOLVED and CLOSED.  Thank you all who helped.

True Image has had problems with Synology drives since TIH 2011. Some models work with no problems others seem to have niggly ones.

The fact that you can image and mount but not verify is strange, you'd expect it to have problems imgaing as well rather than just verifying. I can only guess it is a throughput problem from the network side of things and Ti 2013 thinks there has been a timeout and comes up with the only error message available to it.

1. Do you get the same problem when validating from the recovery CD?

2. If you copy the image to an internal or external USB disk does the image verify?

3. Is there any further information in the task log, such as a failing module number etc?

4. Have you tried a repair install of 2013?

5. Are there any warning or error messages in Windows Event Manager that might relate to either True Image and, or, the NAS?

Colin:

I went online to Acronis Chat Support (24x7) and they pointed me at the (DOH!) solution:

You must use a UNC path to set your NAS device for a backup destination ---not--- a typical "mapped" drive...

so in my case (these are made up numbers) my destination device would be

\\192.168.1.19\My Backups\ASUS\

once I created a backup job with the above UNC path for my Synology Diskstation, it worked perfectly with Acronis TI 2013- Release 5551. I set it to auto-verify post-backup - did that no problem - and then after it sent me a nice report detailing everything, I was able to go in via Acronis 2013 to the backup list, and click on the UNC address of the backup image device, and then right-click and "manually" verify the backup as well --

all issues resolved, I am impressed with the support from Acronis. I think when things go right- they deserve to hear some praise -

I'm 100% satisfied with the support and the product.

Thank you Acronis.

Hi James-

You are welcome -

As a long time Acronis user (over 7 years), I find that Acronis products meet my needs and are reasonably simple to set up and configure compared to the competition. True Image 2013 is great!

Acronis support forums and chat service are the BEST.

Best regards,
Robert.
