[RESOLVED] Failed image restore
I have had several failed attempts on restoring an image that I have taken. Each time it has resulted in a failure to boot and I get the message
"the boot configuration data for your pc is missing or contains errors"
I can get around it by booting from the Acronis 2013 CD and saying continue to Windows or through a recovery CD, but that is no way to run.
I have tried several fresh installs of Windows 8 and a fresh image and each time it seems to screw up the MBR. I have tried the FIXMBR commands in DOS, EASYBCD, just about every option that I can think of.
I'm to the point that I do not even trust the Acronis 2013 anymore. I use Acronis 10 at work, and it worked great that's why I bought 2013 for home. It was Click backup click restore and I was up and running again from a bare bones drive.
I even tried wiping the drive entirely before restoring to it and I got the same error.
I have Windows 8 running on a 240 GB SSD and then a 2 TB HDD in a RAID 0. The image that I took is only of the SSD.
Any suggestions?

It looks like the image you are restoring doesn't contain key information. You would see this behavior if you didn't include hidden partitions on the disk.
Is your computer using UEFI boot on a GPT disk? If you are not sure, boot the computer on the Windows installation DVD, get to a command prompt, type DISKPART
type LIST DISK
If the SSD has a mark under the GPT column, let us know.

Ya, I think it includes a hidden partition becauase when I went in to restore it, it showed to partitions and 2 differnet MBR's

Sorry it takes me so long to reply, I never get a free moment to fiddle with it. There us no mark under the Gpt.

Do the recovery from the recovery cd. Your disk layout is standard. Restore the entire disk, including the MBr+track0 and the disk signature.

I have since started over with a fresh install of windows and got rid of the image. I have not re installed Acronis yet for fear of it not working again. When I go to create a full backup is there a special step that I'm missing? When I was doing it before I was just taking an image of the whole SSD but I didn't select any options or anything.
Also not to add any confusion to it, but I am using a directory link from the SSD to the HDD so anytime I save something to the Users or the Program Files (x86) instead of saving it to the SDD it gets redirected to the HDD. How does that play into the backup? Do I just need to take a separate image of the HDD as well?

Jonathan,
You should not need to do anything except select the entire disk (switch to disk mode as described in the following link).
A disk an partition image will ignore the junction points you are using to redirect the C:\users\ directory to the HDD.
I am wondering why you redirect the Program FIles (x86) directory to the HDD. YOu lose a key benefit of having an SSD.
You would have to backup the redirected directors separately and, ideally, at the same time as the system to ensure data consistency.
PS: you would be better off leaving the directories where they are and just move certain directories under C:\users\[UserA] to the HDD. I explored your setup for a while but gave up because I was concerned the registry data on the system disk could lost synchronization with the relocated appdata directory, for example.

I initially did it just for space conservation a few friends of mine say their SSD's filled up really fast so I was trying to maximize the use of space by keeping what I store on the SSD to a minimum. I've kind of been wondering the same thing myself as to why I junctioned the (x 86). Everything I read about making the junction with the (x 86) said that it would work fine and not affect any of the apps, but now there are 1 or 2 that have stopped working. The strange thing is that they work on my wife's user account but not on mine and mine is the Admin. I'm confident that I can copy everything back to the SDD, but I'm not sure how to remove the junction.

Hello all,
Thank you for taking time to contact us.
Jonathan,
It is not clear, have you restored the archive to the same computer, or have you restored the image to a dissimilar hardware?
If you have restored the archive to the same computer and if you have a possibility to reproduce the issue again, please do the following:
Recover the Windows 8 archive, make sure that the OS is unbootable, boot the system from Acronis Boot Media and obtain Acronis system report (the second item in the main CD menu). You can save Acronis system report to a flash drive.
Send us the report, this will help to localize the issue. You can send the file to us via Private messages.
Thank you.

I have my computer working now, I am not about to break it again just so you can troubleshoot your software that does not work. I don't even have the backup anymore I deleted that. I did what Pat L. suggested and took an image of the entire disk, but I have not dared to try and restore it for fear of it screwing with the MBR again.
