[Resolved] Validation error

Thread needs solution

I just finished creating a partition backup to a set of 9 DVD disks. The backup proceeded with no problems. However, I now get an error message "Failed to validate backup Partition backup to DVD" ( "Partition backup to DVD" is the name of the backup). Is there a way run validation check on the backup? Do I need to repeat the backup? I'm concerned that I may be wasting another 9 DVD disks. I do remember that with disk 9 TI did not indicate the backup was complete. It just returned to the main screen. Could it have been doing a validation check in the background when I closed the program?

Yes. When a backup including validation is complete, ATIH will display a dialog box announcing that everything is complete. If you exited the application before that, then perhaps it did not complete.

Why DVD-R? You could get an external USB HD for less than $100 that would hold far more backups than an inconvenient stack of DVDs. Plus, your image wouldn't be split into so many parts and would load much more quickly.

Why DVD-R? Good question. I do keep a partition backup on USB external HD, but my experience in the school-of-hard-knocks has shown me that this drive too can fail when you need it most! So, as a precaution, I keep a duplicate backup on DVD disk. A little more work, but I think it's worth it.

I ran another backup to DVD and it worked. I just wanted to pass on the following:

When the backup was completed, TI did NOT announce everything was complete. It just ended.
Further, it did NOT eject the CD drive tray as it did for all the previous disks.

Examining the log, TI reported a read error, but validation showed the backup to be good.

Another point. You must let TI close the CD drive tray when inserting blank disks. You can't place a disk in the tray and close it yourself. This causes an error. The user guide does not mention this point, and it should since it's frustrating when it happens to inexperienced users.
