Restoration Help please?

Thread needs solution

Good Evening!

I am adding an SSD to my computer solely for the operating system. I have done a full backup of two 500 gb drives in RAID.

How do I go about restoring Windows ONLY to the SSD from the full disk backup? And then restore installed programs etc to a set of Dynamic Disks?

thank you!

Eric,

Since you change your disk controller setting, you might have to use Universal Restore to move from your RAID configuration to your single SSD. I personally tried that and it didn't work well for me. So I ended up installing Windows clean on the SSD, with apps and updates. That way Windows is properly set up for the SSD.
You can try the simple restore on the SSD, but I think it will fail because of the change from Raid to AHCI. Then, you can try with Universal Restore. For UR, you will need the unpacked drivers of your chipset (in their OEM and INF file formats). A good way to get these drivers is from the website of the computer manufacturer, but they often come in an EXE file. YOu would have to unpack that EXE to find the files in their correct format. Another way is to do an install of Windows (without updates). That is pretty quick. THen, you can do a backup of your new installation, and you can copy the System32/drivers folders for the purpose of UR.
IF all that fail, you will have a backup of raw Windows to do a fresh install.
Only Acronis Premium supports dynamic disks.
