Restore fail

Thread needs solution

Hi all, my son did a big fail on his computer.
He tried to restore an old pc image made with Acronis 2013 in his disk C:/.
The real intention was to take the data from the image and put them on the new disk not to restore it and overwrite the old system. He understood that was a mistake and during the restoring process he press "exit" (the green bar was at the center of the total one).
The pc is a Samsung with Windows 8 and now it has many problem: It says "attempt to restore in progress", probably the restoring process of acronis overwrite the startup program of windows. I have many data on this pc (was mine before my son and I saved there some of my work files) so I want to save them if I still can do it.

Sorry for my bad english and thanks for any help.
Have a nice day.

Nick,
There are too many scenarios to try and cover via a forum.

The install on that machine is hosed.

There are 3 ways to recover.

Windows install media
OEM recovery partition
Bootable USB stick with recovery partition

If the system has a OEM recovery partition, use whatever key sequence Samsung requires to start the recovery process
If you created a USB recovery drive after purchase, it should have a image of the recovery partition
A windows install CD can also be used, but if it is not OEM, you will lose any customizations included with the laptop by Samsung

The state of the drive and what back up solution you implemented early on will determine your next move.

If your son's actions has changed the partition structure of the drive beyond the c:\ partition, simple recovery may not be possible.

If you want to recover files from the drive, I would use a Linux CD... Ubuntu is good and see if you can copy files from the system to an external drive. If the drive is removable, slave it in another machine, use an adapter or toaster and attempt recovery.

All here are sorry to hear of your problems. Most everyone has been here once. Good luck.
