Restore hard disk image to SSD

Thread needs solution

I have Acronis TI Premium 2014 and use Boot Rescue disk build #6688.

I tried to clone a hard disk over to an SSD. My OS is Win7 Pro. The SSD boots fast but system has some long pauses as if system is waiting on disk.

I thought this should work.  What have I missed?

I am currently using ATI2014 under Windows 7, and have recently migrated from an HDD to an SDD using ATI's clone capability.  To date, I have had no problems and I am very happy with the performance of my SDD.

I might be able to help, but I don't understand your complaint.

Do you think something went wrong with the clone and now you want to do a HDD backup and restore?

Please provide additional information, and I will try to help.

Thanks for your reply.

I used backup and restore (boot disk) to create image .tib files to an external drive. Then tried to restore same to ssd after removing hard disk. Generically speaking i was trying to clone system disk over to ssd but I did not use clone feature, as both disks were not installed at same time.

I don't use my ATI under Windows 7 at all. but only use the Backup and Restore boot disk.

It seems to me that either Acronis Restore or Win7 didn't re-configure anything different between hard disk and SSD. I even noticed that Win7 would have allowed defrag of the disk. Would Win7 automatically disable defrag if it knew the disk was SSD?

Tim,

When you made the backup of your HDD,did you use "Disk Mode" or "Partition Mode".  The recommended mode is "Disk Mode".  If you used "Disk Mode" then the result is identical to a Clone. If you used "Partition Mode" then the  restore is more difficult, and the boot up can take more time.  I have done a Partition Mode backup and restore, for personal knowledge and experience, and the SDD did boot, but there were delays in the boot.

So, if that is what you are experiencing, then you may want to reinstall the HDD, perform a "Disk Mode" backup and restore that backup to your SDD.

I will be offline for about an hour.  Will check back later and see how you are doing.

I did use disk mode.

After windows acted strangely, I restored same .tib files to another hard disk and all is well with that. I am working on a project so there is no time in the near future to continue to experiment.

Thanks, Tim
