Restore From Old SSD to New SSD

Thread needs solution

Hi all,
I've been reading up but I'm still really confused. Any help would be really great.

I have a true image file created with 2010. It was taken from my Crucial 128GB SSD. I have restored it in the past just fine. I don't know if I am taking a performance hit because of alignment issues.

Question 1: Is there a way for me to check if the drive is out of alignment or is slow as a result?

Next, I got a new 256GB Samsung SSD and want to use the same image file. I have 2013 now if that makes a difference.

Question 2: How do I restore the image file ensuring that there are no alignment issues.

Question 3: Can I connect the new SSD to my current system, do the restore and then install it as my main drive? Or do I need to disconnect all drives, add new SSD, partition and then restore?

Thanks so much in advance for any help.

One way to check alignment.

Start/program/Accessories/System Tools/System Information/Componets/Storage/Disks/

Line 18 should read= Disk 0, Partition 0
Line 19 should read= Partition size whatever size of your first partition
Line 20 should read "Partition Starting offset= 1,048,576 bytes (if correcly aligned)
-----------------------
2. If the alignment is correct now, it will be restored correcty.
If the alignment is wrong, user will need to correct during the restore;
or use a Partition utility such as Mini Tool Partition Wizard bootable CD which can align partitions.

--------------
3. To correctly restore, you would need to put the target disk iinside the original computer and then the TI bootable CD could be used to restore a disk option backup onto a new disk inside the original source. Some general help is link #3 below, item 1 or 2.

---
4. If slower than expected, have you used the trim function to manage your memory.

5. Check link #2 below to make sure your backups include all the partitions needed. A "disk mode" or "disk image" offers the most choices to include a disk option restore.

Thanks so much for the information. It looks like the SSD is aligned. However, I am swapping out the motherboard, chip, memory and SSD. Should a restore still work using the old image (from SSD also, just not the same one or the same controller)?
