Restored boot sector but still won't boot?

Thread needs solution

Twin discs, 4 partions on one, 2 on the other.

Did full system backup. Two days later machine wouldn't boot on re-start 'missing or corrupt Hal.dll'.

Did full restore sector by sector (took nearly 24hrs!) including boot sector, but got same message on boot. Restored MBR several times, even from an older backup, same result. In the end had to run fixboot from the XP installation disc and then fix the messed up drive letters by hand.

Why didn't TI restore my boot record and partition table back the way it was so that it would boot?

How much data is in the backup? 24 hours is a very long time.

You might want to update to the last build of TI 11 (build 8101). The build you're using very early (the first one I have is 8027). The early builds had quite a lot of bugs.
