Restored a Windows 8 user to a windows 10 user

Thread needs solution

I Restored a Windows 8 user (her old computer) to a windows 10 user on my wife's new computer.  It wiped out her Win 10 setings completely.  Is there a way to correct?

John, not sure exactly what you mean by "Restored a Windows 8 user (her old computer) to a windows 10 user on my wife's new computer."?

Do you mean just the user profile settings for the user from Windows 8, or do you mean that you restored a backup of a Windows 8 computer over the top of the new Windows 10 system?

If it is just the user profile settings, then do you have any backup of the Windows 10 computer that you can restore?
Do you have any System Restore points created within Windows 10 that you could try to go back to?

Without either of the above, there are not many other options available to you other than to restore the Windows 10 computer back to a factory restore settings, i.e. as delivered before the initial setup.

It was just the user profile and no backkups as we were setting up the neew computer.  What I did was copy the AppData and Application Data folders from another computer.  This gave me the ability to set up another user with admin powers.  I then signed on as the new user and deleted the messed up user.  Rebooted and then added her back.  TGhe problem was without the two folders I could not do anything on the computer.

Thank you for the response.

John, thanks for giving your feedback and glad that you have resolved the issue with the user profile.
