Restoring Backup of System Partition to and from 2nd internal drive

Thread needs solution

Hi everyone,

Firstly, I would like to create a bootable XP partition on a 2nd backup internal drive. Then if the first drive fails I can easily boot up from the 2nd drive whilst arranging for a replacement first drive.

Secondly once this is achieved, I have in mind being able to choose to boot up from Drive 2 and using this to restore a backup to Drive 1 from the second drive if I have screwed something up on Drive 1.

It is relatively easy to disconnect the SATA connection to the first drive if required for booting up from Drive 2 (I believe this may be necessary the first time Drive 2 boots)

I'm sure I used to do this in the past by clearing the mounted devices table in the registry before backing up, but I am now having a bit of trouble with Drive 2 hanging on first boot up.

Any tips for how to get this procedure to work reliably would be gratefully received!

Dave check your boot order and boot priority in the BIOS. TheBIOS may be confused as to which drive to boot.
