Restoring Dell MediaDirect 3.0 To A Bigger Hard Drive
I have an Inspiron 9400, Windows XP, and installed a new hard drive with bigger capacity. I had used TIH 2010 to back up the old disk, which has 4 partitions, in this order: (1) 55 MB FAT, (2) C drive, (3) MediaDirect 2 GB FAT 32 (logical drive) and (4) 3.10 GB FAT 32 (probably the recovery partition).
I ran the TIH boot/recover disk to install the old partitions on the new disk. It showed the order of settings for the partitions to be (1) 3.10 GB FAT 32, (2) 55 MB FAT, (3) MediaDirect, then (4) C. When I got to MediaDirect, however, TIH would not let me locate the partition in its original place or size it or the spaces before or after it.
I understood that earlier versions of MediaDirect were difficult to restore, but have seen nothing about difficulties with 3.0 or above. Should I simply restore the other three partitions but not MediaDirect?
Also, TIH showed only the C partition as primary and active, but when I did the settings for the recovery partition, it specified the default type as primary and active and would not permit the "active" box to be unchecked. Is this a problem?
Thanks.
