restoring to different drive with 2014

Thread needs solution

I have bachups of Windows 10 that work fine when restored to the original location. I wanted to restore to a different drive and have two copies to use in case of trouble. I've tried to restore to three different drives with the same result, Windows boots but before it gets to the desktop it locks in a loop and won't complete the bootup. I've also tried a second different backup of windows 10 with the same results. I'd appreciate any assistance. I thought that you could restore to any location as long as you had enough room for the original.? Thanks

Norman, sorry but you cannot just restore your Windows 10 backup to a different drive / location and expect it to work without needing any further changes to be made.  This is confirmed by the fact you quote that all works fine when restored to the original location.

Your Windows 10 backup should include the boot configuration data which in turn includes details of the specific SATA controller and port that the boot OS drive is connected to, so when you restore that backup to a new location / drive, then that boot configuration data no longer matches that SATA controller / port information.

You may be able to get the restored OS on a different drive to work if your BIOS settings will allow you to select that different drive as the main boot device.
