Restoring Files

Thread needs solution

I did a file backup of my raw image files before I blew out and reloaded my computer. Now when I pull the back up and browse it, the file names all show correctly but when I try and restore them, it gives them temp names with ~ at the end. I have several thousand of these files. Can anyone tell me why it's doing that?! This is a major issue for me. I'm a photographer and can't lose these images.

What do you mean by "Now when I pull the back up and browse it"? Are you double clicking on the backup file (*.tib) to open the backup file, or are you using the restore fuction within the True Image program? Are you restoring to the original location or to a new location? Are you using the same version of Windows as before?

I seem to recall someone else reported tildes being inserted into file names (I think it was concerning 2012), it did get resolved, I'll have to look for the post to see if it is relevent to your problem.

Are you restoring to the original location or to a library? If restoring to a Library, try restoring to a real folder.

Sorry, no notification of a response. Running acronis, I select the backup and went looking through the files and folders to make sure they showed correctly. In acronis they do but during the restore, yes to an actual folder, the original file name is changed to more of a temp name. Instead of IMG_053.CR2 it's 0PGLSD86~IMG_0153.CR2~

I suspect that is a temp name and the restore process is not completing properly. You might want to contact Tech Chat. You shouldn't be charged for a restore issue.

Ok that makes sense then. It's a fairly large backup. Might have to move some things around and attempt it again another way. Thanks!!
