restoring to a new hard drive
I hav an HP pavilion elite E9250T with a 640 GB 7200 rpm SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec) it will not pass a smart test but the computer functions normal. I created a full back up using TI 2011on a usb drive.
I want to replace the current drive before it completely goes out. I will be replacing it with a larger hard drive (2TB).
My desire is to have the computer operate as it is now with the larger drive. Is the process as easy as just replacing the new drive and doing a restore from the usb drive, or should i do something else to accomplish my task.

Operating system is windows 7 64 I attached a pic of the disk partition data.
I have backed up all partitions and created a "startup boot recovery manager"
Thank you for your help

Carl,
Thank you for the capture. Unfortunately, it is smaller than expected. would you look again at Disk Management and look inside
Partition 1 which is labelled as System. and confirm whether
1. System partition 1 Is it marked Active or ACT? Is there a drive letter assigned? (I am not expecting one.)
Look inside the factory image partition 3 and is there a drive letter? (not sure if drive letter or not,)
Not sure of what you mean by "Created a Startup Boot Recovery Manager." Are you saying you created a TI Recovery CD?
Do you know whether you disk is MBR or GPT style partitioning. You can tell inside Disk Management by clicking the
View/Top/Disk list/partititon style
If using backup which have already been created, do you know whether you created them as Disk Image backup or as a Partition backup of all partitions? The difference is that in a Partition Backup, user selects each partition to be included within the backup. Whereas, the disk image backup is one where you select the disk as the choice and the disk will automatically include all partitions on the disk. The disk image is the preferred as Acronis will include the Disk Signature whereas the Partition Backup does not.
Or, if you plan to create new backups for use on your restore, the procedure is displayed in the first few pictures of link #2 below.

In additon to the above, this is just a looking into the future question. Are you thinking about adding a data partitn to the new 2 Tb disk? If yes, what size? If this is part of your plans, that should be part of the restore settings and would change our restore procedures.

Answers to your questions:
1. System partition 1 (no drive letter, marked active)
factory image partition 3 (labeled drive letter "D" )
Not sure of what you mean by "Created a Startup Boot Recovery Manager." Are you saying you created a TI Recovery CD (under tools and utilities it gave me an option to create a recovery at start up, when it boots it gives me an option to hit F11 to go into acronis recovery. I attached an image.i dont see an option to create a recovery disk)
Disk style is "MBR"
I also attached an image of my backup.
Thanks again for your help

As I am understanding your goal to be restoring a backup of your current 640 disk onto a new 2 TB disk.
The only real change in the new disk is to increase partition 2 (HP) from 583 to 1850 GB.
Current & future disk Management image

Reference= Guide to Restore to Larger/smaller disk with the following changes.
1. Remove old disk and attach new blank disk inside computer.
2. Insert old disk elsewhere such an enclosure or docking unit or usb connector.
3. Use the TI Recover CD and boot into CD Recovery procedures.
4. Follow the guide with these changes.
5. Using the CD "Add disk" tools option, perform the ADD Disk procedure onto the 2 TB disk and initialized as MBR.
Space to remain unallocated and not partitioned. Upon "add disk" completion, follow the guide with the changes below.
Guides Figure 9= Select System partition 1 to be restore without size change.
Guides Figure 13= Partition Type is PRIMARY and ACTIVE. Correct to these settings if necessary.
Guides Figure 15= Size unchanged as per next illustration

Guides Figure 26= Select HP partition 2.
Guides Figure 30= Partition type must be Primary. .....ACTIVE NOT checked . Correct if necessary.
Guides Figure 32= Resize from 583 to 1850 GB or 1849 something close but less (as below).

Guides Figure 43 =Select Factory Image partition 3
Guides Figure 47= Partition type is Primary and Active NOT checked (Correct if necessary)
Guides Figure 49= Size remains unchanged at 12.27GB or slightly larger as below

Continue with the Restore of MBR/Track0 plus if the "Recover Disk Signature" is offered as shown in Figure 59,
yes, the Recover disk signature should be checked..
After restore completion, shutdown and disconnect the backup storage disk so only the new 2TB disk is attached.
Addendum:
If you have not already done so, before proceeeding with the restore,
you should create the Windows Recovery CD which can be done on your comptuer from the folder
Start/all programs/Maintenance folder.
