Restoring without a Recovery Disk
Many years ago, I purchased the full, boxed version of True Image 10. I've executed many full backups onto two external hard drives on my XP PC.
The 8-year-old PC won't boot, so I purchased a new PC with Windows 7. The old hard dfrive from the XP machine is readable and is now connected to the new PC, but I'd like to restore the old XP machine as well.
In short, I want to transfer the Acronis hard drive image from the external drive to the old hard drive, both of which are attached to the new PC.
Multiple problems are preventing me from doing this: (1) I didn't make bootable media using the True Image software (shame on me!); (2) I do not have True Image installed on the new PC; (3) I can't locate the original True Image installation CDs so I don't have the serial number and as a result, I can't get technical support from Acronis. I have the original box with the purchase price ($49.99 at Micro Center), but no other proof of purchase.
If I could transfer the hard drive image from the external drive to the old XP drive, then install the old drive back into the old PC, the old machine would be back in business (all the malware scans and diagnostics I ran on the old drive found nothing wrong).
I would appreciste any advice the community has to offer.
