Runtime Error in System Clean Up, TI Home 2009

Thread needs solution

Dear Gurus,

I just bought Acronis TI Home 2009, build 9796.  When I try to do a system clean up, I get the following error:

Runtime Error!
C;\program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageHomeService.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

When I disable the free space portion of the program, it completes without error in a few minutes.

My system is XP Professional, SP3, 1 Admin account, 2 user account. The usual suspects as far as programs go (Norton AV, SuperAntiSpyware, etc....). The hard drive is a 500GB Seagate Barracuda. Could the problem be related to the size of the hard drive?

Any ideas or suggestions? I have been working with Acronis support (Case 00320087) and I know they are trying to solve it but so far we keep uninstalling and reinstalling the program but the problem remains.

Any help is appreciated.

Have you used msconfig to remove all services except windows and all start-up programs before doing the uninstalls/installs? That often helps.

Hi Scott,

I have not yet tried your suggestion regarding msconfig. Acronis support had me use the Acronis software removal tool. Your idea is worth a try though. The bit that has me stumped is that when running system clean up, if I de-select the hard disk free space check box and run the program, it completes without error. When I select hard disk free space, the program errors out on the above referenced runtime error. The log references error code: 0 (0x640000). At this point I am not convinced that this is an installation issue but I might be wrong.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I find that installs of ATI are less often troublesome, and uninstalls/installs of various other programs are less troublesome if I use msconfg when ATI is present.

Ok, so quick update. I did yet another uninstall and reinstall, this time from the original CD I purchased. The install went without issue but when the system tried to restart, it failed. I tried everything I could think of to get the system back up and running with no luck. I finally booted the system to the Acronis CD and mounted an image I had saved two days prior. At that point I was able to get the system back up. At this point, constant uninstalls and reinstalls don't seem to be getting me anywhere. The bottom line is that the system clean up utility has a big bug and will not complete the hard disk free space without error.

Is there some sort of log beyond the one on the scheduling tab that might display more information? I can't imagine that I am the only person experiencing this problem.

Any other ideas? Please?

Runtime error when System clean-up is gathering information, have to manually close program
through program control.
