Scheduled backup to DVD fails with error: Failed to prepare data stream...

Thread needs solution

I can manually do a file backup to DVD. It works fine. If I modify this backup so that it is a scheduled backup it always fails immediately and the log shows the following error:
Failed to prepare data stream. Check whether the source and target partitions exist.
The specified file does not exist.
The specified file does not exist.
Operation has completed with errors.

No DVD media was in the DVD drive at the time, but under the Advanced Option "Removable media settings" I had selected the "Ask for first media while creating backups on removable media" option. I also had selected "Place Acronis True Image Home (Full version) on media" option.

If I remember correctly I also tried the same backup and left a blank DVD media in the drive and got the same error. That surprised me.

Has anyone else seen this failure?

Hello Ascopes,

Thank you very much for your post. I will do my best to assist you.

The error is most likely caused by an issue between our software and the DVD drive that you are using. We will need to investigate this issue in order to resolve it.

About the option - "Ask for first media while creating backups on removable media" we have a task in our Testing Lab and we are now working to reproduce it. I will update this thread once it is reproduced and when it will be resolved.

In the meantime, I would really appreciate if you can contact our Support team with this report so that we can resolve the problem with the DVD drive.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
