scsi to sata cloning with ATIH.10
I'd like to clone the scsi disc in my Dell W7x64 workstation to a much larger sata drive. Is that just a simple clone operation or do I need to do something special?
Thanks for any help,
DavidG

Yes, it would be the system drive.
I'm not an IT expert but, as the motherboard has sata plugs on it as well as a scsi interface I thought all I'd need to do is change the BIOS when I boot the new disk - but I guess someone is going to tell me that won't work or is not possible...

You might get away with setting up the BIOS to try a SATA drive in the boot order. I'm not sure but I assume it loads the sata drivers on this machine in any event, and if so, it should be able to fail finding the scsi drive then try the next, which is the sata drive. You might even get away as you originally hoped by specifying in the BIOS to try the SATA as the first boot attempt.
Hopefully, one of the system geniuses can give you a more precise answer.

Thanks Scott,
I did look at the BIOS and it certainly seems as if the boot drive can be set wherever I want including the SATA positions, it also allows the SCSI interface to be switched off.
Hopeful?

Before you do anything else, I'd make a backup of the drive and store it in on another dirve, in a safe place. If anyting goes wrong you then can at least get back to where you are now.
