second full backup

Thread needs solution

Hello
Should I choose a new or existing destination when I perform my second full backup?
Thank you

Peter,

If your backup task is set to single version, or full, each backup will be a full backup, regardless of the destination. If you have the single version scheme, your previous full backup will be erased after the new has completed (you need enough space for 2 full backups).

If you backup task is set to incremental or differential, you cannot force a new full backup in the same or another destination *unless* you manually remove the first full backup and all subsequent incremental or differential and store them in another directory. At that point, when ATI will try to make an incremental/differentail, but it will not find the previous backups and it will redo a full.

Hello Pat,

My question is about adding an existing incremental version-chain backup from a different external drive. When you choose the option of adding an existing backup, do you select the Initial full backup of the chain or the last incremental?

Thanks for your advice.

Hi Steve,

We are at somewhat of a disadvantage here.  This thread is from 2011, and we don't know anything about your environment.  OS, version of ATIH, etc.  I recommend starting your own thread, providing the relavant information so all have a complete picture of your environment and desired outcome.

Beyond that, The task(s) you are attempting to merge or add to would have to be identical for the new .tib or snapshot to be imported into an existing chain.  You would select the last snapshot in the chain, but all snapshots including the first full would need to be present for the addition to be successful.
