Simple enough

Thread needs solution

I have an XP 32bit machine. I wish make a clone of it on a different machine. What do I need to do to prep the new machine? Does it need to be reformatted first? Or will the transfer do it all during the migration/cloning?

Is Acronis True Image 2014 capable of the task?

Thank you in advance!

You need TI 2014 Premium which has Universal Restore built in. The best way to do this is with a Disk Mode full backup to an external drive and then a restore to the new machine. No need to format first TI will overwrite everything on the new machine's hard drive. I'm assuming you want to have XP as the OS on the new machine, correct? IF not then you will have to do a files and folders backup and re-install all of your programs on the new machine. Then restore your files to the new machine.

Thanks much. Will the cloned machine have the same passwords...hope not. That's one of the problems with the old machine, lost admin password. I'm having a problem with a sound card driver installation. It could be the admin rights, although the user acct has admin rights, I gather that there is an even higher acct necessary, 'privileged admin rights/the administrator acct, to install the driver, something I've been unable to do, and on the other hand, its possible the card simply died, it happens right? The box is old, the app it runs provide(d) audio 24/7...until one day last week.

Your thoughts are appreciated!

Clone = clone = identical. So yes, passwords would be the same.
