Simple but important questions

Thread needs solution

Hi guys,

I think I know the answer is yes to both my questions, but I'm relying on an accurate answer or I'm shafted. Can some MVP please confirm?
Thanks

INTRODUCTION
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I want to rationalise files from all my old Acronis backups onto my clean HP computer - getting rid of dupes - and re-filing things in new folders on the clean computer.

Firstly I want to restore data files (not partitions or system files) from Acronis Full Backups held on DVD or USB drives - but created with :
- Acronis True Image 9.1 Workstation Universal Restore (2007)
- Acronis True Image Echo Workstation Universal Restore (2009)
- Acronis True Image Home 2012 Standard (2012)
- Acronis True Image 2013 with Acronis Plus Pack (2013)
- Acronis True Image 2014 Premium Upgrade (2014)

---

INFO 1
I have already tested restoring the odd file from old DVDs and USB drives, and I sometimes get a glitch - however it looks like this issue can be overcome by NOT using the Acronis installed on the computer, but simply using a restore CD created from my PRESENT Acronis True Image 2014 Premium Upgrade.
However, I do not want to ASSUME that this is a correct way to proceed and damage my clean new computer's filing system.... so......

QUESTION 1
Can old PC files be restored without issue using a restore CD created by my present Acronis True Image 2014 Premium Upgrade? Yes??? :-)

I guess I do not know/understand whether Acronis backups created on an older different COMPUTERS using different OPERATING SYSTEMS will restore correctly.....
.... In particular whether the fact that an old PC's filing system was running FAT32 or NTFS (using XP) or Windows 7 will restore on a Windows 8 computer.

INFO 2
Using the Acronis True Image 2014 Premium Upgrade restore CD I am going to create a Full multiple partitions Backup (clone) of my backup HP computer (complete with hidden partitions) before wiping and upgrading the OS.
I presently run VISTA on it and after the backup I shall be updating it to either my spare copy of Windows 7, or putting on Windows 8 - whichever runs better after a trial installation. If it all goes bad I may have to replace that computer, but I want to try and use it.

QUESTION 2
I wish to be CERTAIN that after backing VISTA up to a large external USB drive using using a Acronis True Image 2014 Premium Upgrade recovery CD , that individual files can be restored on a clean W7 or W8 PC using a Acronis True Image 2014 Premium Upgrade recovery disk.

Will individual files (excluding system files) restore ok onto the same (or different computer) using a different operating system???? Yes?? :-)

Thanks in advance for the hand-holding! :-)

Hello Pete,

thank you for your posting!

The answer on both of your questions is yes. Files can be restored without any difficulties on a dissimilar operating system/hardware.

The only thing you need to note is file security settings. In short, if you recover a secured file/folder on a computer without the user specified in the permissions, you may not be able to read or modify this file. Please take a look at this article for more information.

Thank you.
