Skipping Validation

Thread needs solution

Hello there,

I was trying to clone an encrypted HDD, 640GBs, sector by sector, it has a few bad sectors. After around 15-16 hours the cloning process finished & it said less than 1 minute remaining for a while so after doing some research I found out that it says "less than 1 minute remaining" the whole time during the validation process. So I let it run, I let it ruin for around another 17 hours & nothing, by this time the total time taken was around 34 hours.

At that time I checked the 2TB external HDD that I cloned the original in to & it wasn't even being read, I couldn't feel any movement inside so I just cancelled the whole process after around 34 hours.

Even though the cloning had finished, after cancelling I couldn't mount the new cloned HDD, though when I looked at it through a partitioning software it does show all the partitions.

So I just wanted to know if there's anyway that I could skip the validation after cloning or should I just let the valuation run even a longer time when I try again???

Thanks a lot for taking the time!
Cheers!

1. Don't clone. Create a full disk mode backup.

2. You may choose not to select validation as part of the backup task. You can always validate as a separate operation, anytime.

3. Sector-by-sector backup is not normally required, and adds huge amounts of time to the process.

4. If the drive has errors, it may be problematic to backup or clone. First, copy all valuable data from the drive to another drive.

5. Run chkdsk /r on each partition of the internal drive, and on the external HD. If there are hidden partitions, assign letters to them so you can chkdsk.
Also run a drive checking utility from the drive manufacturer, as those sometimes catch errors missed by chkdsk.

6. Don't connect via a hub, a port in a monitor, a USB extension cord, etc. Connect the external drive directly to a USB port on the rear of the computer case.
