Startup Recovery Mgr works but recovering from Windows and rebooting does not
If I'm in Windows (Windows 7 x64 running latest version of TI) and I go in and select a recovery image and then go through and click proceed it will reboot but when it comes up I get the following error :
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(1,0)
However, if I install Startup Recovery Mgr and click F11 while rebooting then it will reboot into the recovery environment fine.
I've tried this where the file is stored on my NAS (where all my recovery files live) and where the file is on a USB drive and I get the error both ways.
Does this make sense to anyone? This is a computer that runs headless and it is quite a pain to have to get the computer out when I need to hook up a monitor, keyboard and mouse.
Thanks
Josh

Does the computer have multiple drives of different types installed? I'm wondering if the drive order is being detected differently between an F11 boot and one directly from Windows. Linux most likely isn't accessing the correct root device.
Does TI from the CD boot correctly? Have you tried the ISO download version from your Acronis account? (It may help to know which kernels load and which don't.)

I haven't tried the CD because I got the F11 to work.
I can get it to work. If I have to go in and use a CD or do anything at the physical PC then it almost definitely defeats the purpose of the tool and I need to look for an alternative. It's an absolute pain to get physical access to it.
What I'll try and do while I have it out is reformat the whole thing and see if it works that way.
Thanks
Josh

Josh,
Keep in mind if the drive fails or become non-bootable, the F11 will not be an option and you will be forced to use the TI Rescue CD to perform a recovery.

I'm ok with getting to the unit if the drive fails. However I think that I should be able to reboot from the windows environment without needing to press F11 or use a CD.
