Support for x86 UEFI?

Thread needs solution

Has anyone been able to use the boot media and to start TI on a x86 platform with UEFI BIOS (i.e. Latitude 10 or Lenovo Tablet 2)? I can't seem to boot into the media to take a backup image.

Matt,

Are you using the standard build of the recovery media or the build with the Windows 8 patch for UEFI systems?

Colin,

I'm using the boot media created by the standard Acronis 2013 package.

Matt,

Download this patch and install, remake the recovery CD, you should now be able to boot your UEFI system.

Acronis UEFI patch

Colin,

My problem is not with secure boot. Disabling secure is an option for me. It's that the media does not work with UEFI on a 32-bit machine (i.e. Dell Latitude 10 & Lenovo Tab 2). I tried the patch and the Latitude 10 did not boot to media. I made sure the that media was bootable and tested it out on another (64-bit) UEFI machine.

Matt,

Did the Lenovo boot with the patch, you mentioned the Dell didn't?

Apart from the fact that one machine was a 64 bit, what other differences are there between the 32 bit and 64 bit machines, or similarities between the two 32 bit ones seeeing as they are from different manufacturers?

It is unlikely that the problem in this case is the fact one set of machines are 32 bit and the other 64 bit as from the recovery point of view it is Linux running, so what bittedness (new word) Windows runs at should make no difference. I think the problem is more down to them being Tablets, which does seem to be causing problems for some people.

Do you get any error messages?

How far does the Recovery Environment get when booting?

Colin,

I was able to boot the Lenovo just fine. Apart from the the x64 vs the x86 difference the only other thing I can think of is that the Latitude 10 is running an Atom SoC. I am not able to boot to the USB media whatsoever. I do not see any error messages.

Hi all,

I have the same problem with the Lenovo Tablet 2. I recently purchased TrueImage 2013 and updated it to the latest version (build 6514, Sync Agent 16,0,0,6682). So the UEFI patch should be included. Just to be sure, I also tried to install the patch and I got the message the patch was designated to version 16..0.5555 and not to my version. So I assume my version has already the UEFI support.

However, the Lenovo Tablet 2 does not boot on the created USB stick. I examined the stick and found that there is just a bootx64.efi file. The problem is the Tablet 2 only supports 32 bit uefi. So it will boot only if the stick also contains a bootx32.efi file.

Is there any solution for this? Will TrueImage work on the Lenovo Tablet 2 at all, since it requires Linux to boot for recovery operation. Does the Linux Kernel used for recovery support 32-Bit uefi?

Thanks

Uwe

Hi Uwe

I have the exact same problem with the Latitude 10. We want to deploy about 18 tablets to remote users and give them a bootable USB stick with an Acronis image so if need be they can recover the tablet. the problem being we just can't get it to boot from the USB, which is Acronis 2013 (latest build) bootable media. So it would be great if you have found a solution?

I was thinking the issue was with the Windows 8 boot manager and we could use EasyBCD to fix that? However your post above suggests that the bootable media just will not work with the latitude 10's processor. Is that correct?

Chris

Uwe,

Raise a support issue with Acronis, as you have a recovery problem there should be no charge for support.

Same issue here. The Dell Latitude ST2 boots up to the blue screen, then the tablet shuts off after 30 seconds probably when Acronis starts to load up. Never see the Acronis splash screen. Really need to find a recovery solution before I start deploying these. Any ideas?

I have the same problem with a Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 with Windows.
I can't boot acronis from usb.

How can I make an acronis bootable usb stick x86 architecture?

Srki Mitros,

Have you disabled Secure Boot in the UEFI firmware of the Yoga?

Hi Colin B. I see it's an old topic, but I've actually got this problem with Acer Aspire Switch 10. I've done backup with ATI 2015 6055 and try to recover whole partition. Unfortunately, boot sequence is missing. I've just disabled Secure Boot in the UEFI firmware. I'll try to change Boot.efi in the Boot folder.

Is there anyone who can help me? I've lost the initial reinitialization partition.

Lazyboy,

Could you be a little more specific? What actually happens when you try to use the recovery media? Do you get as far as an True Image menu?
