system partition backup?

Thread needs solution

Hi...
How do I clone the system Partition (C:) to a backup bootable partition on another drive?
I have Acronis 2009 True Image Home.
Win XP Microsoft security updated.

I'd really appreciate anyone's help.
I also have 1 or 2 later upgrades on another computer. Acronis 2010 PC Backup & Recovery.
My Win XP is still using 2009 True Image Home.
I feel I can boot with either Win XP and Sys 7 64 bit. True? Using the original the original CD.

Only limited experience using backup software. I only been using 'clone disk' backup of the system (C:) drive. I could not find 'clone partition' of system (C:) drive - and to be bootable backup.
With much appreciation...

Ron,

You cannot clone a partition. Cloning is only for an entire disk. You can create a disk and partition backup. Then you can restore that backup to the target partition. The result is the same as cloning a partition.

Note that if your intent is to keep both the original partition and the copy on the same computer, you will have some booting issues that are fixable.

If you just want to move the partition to another disk, and make that disk bootable, make sure you include the active partition with C:\/ Sometimes this active partition is a system reserved partition (common with Win7 installation), or another hidden partition. It is best to include all partitions of the system disk in the backup and then selectively restore the backed up partitions. When you try to boot on the new disk, make sure you remove the old disk and put the new disk where the old was before restoring. Do all restores from the Acronis recovery CD.

If your intent is to keep a copy of your system so that you can restore your computer in case of a disaster, just to the backup.
