A Tale of Two Disks: Both are almost the same size

Thread needs solution

Using TI Home 11.

Backed up an SSD with size ~59GB. Used space is only ~40GB
Trying to restore to a SSD with size ~55GB, but TI won't allow me to restore the disk. Assuming that the size differnce is the problem.

How do I restore to this slightly smaller disk?

Thanks!

Hello Tim,

Let me assist you.

The thing is that most likely Acronis True Image 11 Home just doesn't support SSD drives in its bootable environment and under bootable CD. It was released a long time ago when SSD drives weren't used.

In your case I may suggest you to download the trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2010 and try to restore your drive using it. The functional limitation of Acronis True Image Home 2010 trial version is that you can only restore and validate an image when you run the program from the bootable media. Windows version is functional for 15 days only and it does not have any more limitations.

Please also check this forum thread about the correct alignment on SSD drives.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.

Thank you

Inability to resize looks like the result of sector-by-sector backup. I don't know if TI 11 falls back to this mode if it detects errors, if I had a spare disk of larger size, I'd try to restore to it, chkdsk it, then backup and attempt to restore with resize again.
