Target drive runnning out of space error messsage

Thread needs solution

Suddenly in the last two weeks I have got this error message on my back ups. If I happen to be near the computer within the 10 minute time frame it gives me to make a decision & I say ignore, the back up proceeds without a problem.

I can't see why this is suddenly happening. I back up to an Internal D drive of 500gb with 150gb free and an external drive of 1tb with 400gb free. So to me I have plenty of space. Is there a setting or something in Acronis I have missed or need to change? Anyone else have this quirk?

Michael,

ATI will try to do a new backup before erasing an older backup. Do you have system protection turned on for your backup disk? If yes, turn it off. Shadow copies take a lot of space on a backup disk.
Run chkdsk /r on both disks to make sure the disk information is correct. Sometimes, when a big file is deleted, the information is not updated correctly. This will take a long time, so let it run over night.

Thanks Pat,

Pardon my totoal ignorance but what do you mean by system ptotection?

C dive is internal & 500gb and backs up to my D drive which is internal & 500gb, That's how I bought the pc, so I could have a permanent back up of data etc sitting in the pc. Nearly lost all my data once when C drive died in an older pc. This happens starting 11pm friday & then the same time Saturday night, D drive backs up to M drive which is an external maxtor.

Have run check discs & no isuues there.

Michael

Right click on the My computer icon on the desktop. Choose properties. Choose System protection. Turn off system protection for the backup disk and the main disk.

Thanks,

No tab called system protection in properties and I can't see it under any tab I have. Running XP Professional.

Sorry. The terminology changed since XP.

Thanks but that is already turned off on all my drives except C drive which hold the programs etc. and is the one that is being backed up to other drives.

Michael,

What are your backup settings and what is the size of a full backup?
Are you using auto-consolidation?

Sorry for the silence, had to go overseas for work so couldn't access my home drive.

While I was away, the back ups from C to D drive ran smoothly but the ones to the external hard drive failed. Picked up a 2TB external drive in my travels, so will be switching to that for back ups. As it has nothing one it, can't see space nbeing a problem.

Full back up from C to D drive, the acronis file is 21.1gb. From D to M drive is 12.8gb.

No idea what auto consolidation is I'm afraid. I'm having fun trying to work out the new version of Acronis.

Also wondering if the change has done anything as the problem started just after I upgraded to the latest version.

Back up settings are a full back up, then 3 incremental ones before another full back up.
