TI 10 - can't restore backup
Hi - I'd be grateful for advice as to why I cannot recover my backed-up data to a new hard drive.
Here's what I did step-by-step:
- I cloned my old hard disk (comprising NTFS (C:), MBR Track 0, Recovery) with Vista installed to an external hard disk using TI 10
- fitted new hard disk
- installed TI 10 on new hard disk
- opened TI 10 and initiated the recovery wizard>selected the backup location>restore disks or partitions>clicked the Disk 1 box (to enable recovery of the NTFS, MBR Track and Recovery)>selected the new hard disk>Yes, I want to delete all the partitions on the destination hard disk before restoring>NTFS>NTFS (yes, twice)>Active>Restored partition size (but it didn’t do anything)>No, I don’t want to assign a drive letter>No, I do not want to choose another partition or hard disk>Use default options>Proceed
- selected OK when it says “W000A03EB reboot required in order to complete recovery”
- it reboots and goes to Acronis Starting Loader screen for about 10 seconds
- then that is replaced by a screen with the Acronis logo in the top left, with a message saying "Loading, Please Wait..." for about 15 seconds
- then the Acronis recovery progress screen flashes up for about a minute
- then it reboots
- my laptop starts up as normal and none of the data has been recovered
I read other threads on the forum, one of which suggested to someone else that they should download the latest build of TI 10, so I did that too and still nothing happened.
I'm at a loss to explain why I cannot restore my data to the new hard drive. Any ideas?
Thanks

MudCrab - thanks.
I took your advice and booted from the CD but it did not recognise my new hard drive. So I made a bootable disk of the latest build (4924) and it did the same thing. (It turns out my original disk and the latest build are one and the same, but I didn't know that until after I had made a disk of the 'latest' build.)
Why doesn't TI recognise my new hard disk? Is it because of a formatting problem or could it be down to the fact that I've installed Vista on the new hard disk?
Thanks,
PetrolPete

Did TI from the CD see the old drive okay?
Have you tried the quiet acpi=off noapic option detailed in Section II of the Read Before You Post thread?
Another option would be to try doing the restore with the trial version of TI 2010.

I have exactly the same problem as you Pete.
My Dad's computer had to go away for repair. They replaced the old hard drive - nothing to do with the problem, guess it is standard procedure. Prior to it going away used Acronis to do a full backup of drive c. Validated and it's fine.
Computer comes back, new HD ghosted to have windows XP and all the rubbish new pc's come with. I install Acronis on new c drive. I link up external HD and go through the recovery procedure, replace drive c with the info on drive J (the acronis files)
Discs start work. Needs a reboot to do task, sounds reasonable. Boots into Acronis (it has an acronis logo in top lh corner), eventually finishes rebooting but now there is no Acronis screen running in the background or anywhere else and nothing happens. Drive c contains only what was sent by pc company. Drive J contains data from Acronis (.tib files). I re-validate files. They are fine.
Please tell me what I'm doing wrong
Yvonne

Yvonne,
What version and build of TI are you using?
Did you try booting to the TI CD and using the quiet acpi=off noapic option (instructions linked in Post #3)?
Did the TI CD previously work properly to do restores on this computer?
