TI 2011 Recovery Failure
I tried to restore back a backup image of 2011 and right after I hit "proceed" to start, I got an error message that the restore failed. When I tried to reboot I kept getting the following message:
PXE-EC8: Structure was not found in UND1 driver code segment.
PXE:M0F Exiting Intel Boot Agent
Operating system not found
No matter what I did I was not able to boot the rescue media (either TI 2011 or TI 2010) and my OS will also not boot. No matter what I did... I kept getting the above message...
Right now I am installing Windows from the DVD so I can at least have something that boots. Then I guess I will restore back an aged backup using TI 2010 (which I know works.) I have not used 2011 for a restore before. Clearly I won't ever use it again.
What happened here??? And how or what should I have done to get around reinstalling Windows from the DVD. I mean we use TI so we have something that boots. And I know for a fact that both my rescue media CD's of TI 2011 and TI 2010 boot - because I tested them. So again, what happened???

Thanks for your reply... after I installed Windows from the DVD I took the DVD out - I put in the rescue media and restarted - it booted and I restored back an aged backup. I used 2010 to do this as clearly something is wrong with 2011 and this computer. A simple error message upon trying to restore should not have caused all this. I should have been able to boot Windows again... I have no idea what happened. I hope it doesn't happen again, becaue it took quite a bit of effort and time to get out of it.
Thanks for your input...

I restored back using 2010 from the rescue media several times today and thankfully had no issues. I did notice something though... when you boot from the rescue media the drive letters are changed - like my external drive is a different letter. I know this and don't care. But my computer OS was called "D" and the recovery was called "C." I have not noticed that before... that does not happen on my other computer using Acronis and was wondering if that might cause a problem??? Is that normal?
Grateful if anybody knows an answer to this...

Sandy,
It's normal for the drive letters to differ. Just make sure you know which partitions are which and restore to the correct one.

Thanks Mudcrab, I thought that might be the problem with the 2011 restore issue. I restored back the entire disk so obviously not. This is my 2nd run in with 2011... I think I will just sit this build out.
Thanks for responding - at least I learned something!

Sandy,
If you have not done so, assign unique names to your drives. I always include the drive letter as part of the name. Then, the next time you make a backup, these volume names will be part of backup and will appear when you perform a recovery. This can help to prevent a data mishap due to drive letter differences between Windows and Linux.
Maybe your drive C is Windows 7 so you mgiht assign it as Win7_C
If you have a drive D, maybe it already has a name and you just want to add a letter to the description.
You are working with 11 continuous characters for the name.

Thanks GroverH for your reply... glad to see you are still around helping! Putting the drive letter in the name is good idea - I will do it.
Once again thanks for the replies!
