TI 2014 not picking up main "C:\" when attempting offline backup

Thread needs solution

Hi everyone (and Steve),

I recently attempted to do an offline backup of my C: drive with TI 2014 (my last version), but after doing the Analysis it only show two drives (I have four drives:  three internal and one external for backups) and not the main C: drive.  However, it seems to think that one of the internal drives is the C: drive which it is not.

When I use TI online, it does show all attached (internal and external) drives.  How do I get TI to recognize all the internal drives (off line)?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Michael

Michael, I would suspect that your internal C: drive is of a type that would require device drivers to be added to the rescue media, which in turn means using Windows PE rescue media to have the option of adding drivers.  The Linux based rescue media (default for older versions) has no capability of adding further drivers.

Note: I suspect (based on personal experience) that attempting to create WinPE media with ATI 2014 is unlikely to be successful, in particular in getting Acronis to recognise the Windows ADK & PE Kits provided for Windows 10 which is not supported for use with ATI 2014.

Thanks for getting back to me, Steve.  I knew I could count on you.

I would quickly agree with your suspicions, however the drive I am trying to backup is a mature C: with plenty of drivers and Windows updates installed (not to mention those other utility apps like 'dotnet's and Netframes(?)).  Oddly, the offline process also misses another drive I have installed on my PC, but I am not concerned about backing up that one.

Doesn't seem that there is a solution to my situation.  However, I think I can remove the drive to an external enclosure and try an online backup.  I have another drive for a new install anyway.

Much appreciated, Steve.

Kind regards,

Michael
