TI 2014 - PAE error on XP computer (cloning a new SS drive)

Thread needs solution

Hi...

I have the full registered version of Acronis True Image 2014 software. I installed the software on a old XP laptop of mine. The install went fine. I logged in after I installed the software. That went fine.

I have a new solid state hard drive, formatted NTFS, and it is in a little box plugged in as a USB hard drive.

I launch the cloning software. I do automatic. It sees my new drive and pre selects it and I select it as my new destination drive. Every thing seem fine. Then it says it needed to re boot to clone the drive and so I say OK and the computer reboots.

Then I get text on the screen that says my CPU is not "PAE" so it can not continue.

I down loaded the image and used nero to burn the image to a disk, but maybe I did it wrong because the computer will not boot to it. But the computer is configured to boot to a CD/DVD drive first, before the hard drive.

Can I fix this or do I need to buy other software. Am I doing something wrong? Will making a disk image work? and if so, how do I do that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

jack

Your PAE error is specific to your CPU and it basically means that your CPU cannot address memory beyond 4GB. This is RAM memory that is being talked about. What I can tell you is that first XP is not SSD aware, in other words XP does not recognize the difference between an SSD and an HDD when connected to a computer on a normal hard drive connection (not USB). Your CPU needs to be a Pentium Pro or later in order to not give the PAE error when the computer thinks that there is more than 4GB or RAM installed. So I am going to suggest that in your situation your machine has a CPU prior to or lesser than a Pentium Pro installed. Your XP OS is seeing your USB attached drive as added RAM not a hard drive so therefore it is giving the PAE error.

Solution, upgrade the machine! It is definitely time to move on!
