TI Home 2011 just rendered my working Netbook uselss

Thread needs solution

Using TI Home 2011 (build 5519), I just tried to restore my Netbook to an earlier full backup of the hard drive. Not only did it fail to restore the old backup, it wiped the partition data on my PC and rendered it useless.

-- I selected the backup I wanted restored
-- Then opted to restore the whole disks (i.e., all its partitions)
-- Then selected the sole drive on the Netbook
-- And pressed Proceed

What happened?

-- I immediately got an error message "Recover operation failed."
-- The partition table on the machine has been wiped.
-- I am no longer able to boot from the PC. I was beforehand!?!
-- The drive on the Netbook is now "unallocated". No partitions; no nothing.
-- There is no dump file, error report, or any other such on the USB drive I booted from.
-- My Netbook is toast.

Any thoughts on what to do? Having been an Acronis user going back to TI6, I am horrified by this. Not only has Acronis failed to restore an old backup, it's rendered my Netbook useless.

Was this restore done when booted from the Rescue CD? If not, try that.

A disk option restore will be your best chance for success. If you get a chance to restore, after the restore, boot only with nothing else attached.

Are you aware that there is an edition just for Netbooks?

Yes, the restore was done from a Rescue CD (USB drive, actually).

I tried ATIH2011 on another PC and had the exact same experience. Using ATIH2010, I restored both PCs and am have now uninstalled ATIH2011!!

Given my experience and that of some others, methinks there's a problems with ATIH2011.

What a glorious waste of 4 hours of my life.

I purchased TrueImage 2011 for netbooks. I do not like the changes! Can I uninstall 2011 and install True Image 11 and then activate it using my 2011 key? True Image 11 works great on my other PCs.

@ Alex,

First thought - I'm not sure if TI2011 is supposed to work with a netbook, one of the reasons the Netbook edition of 2011 is available.

What has happened is correct in so far as the destination drive being wiped, as this is what has to happend before an image is recovered.

Does the image validate correctly?

However the fact you had the same experience on a PC makes it sound as though there might be soemthign not right with the rescue CD.

@Erik

The TI11 key will not work with 2011, but if you already have TI11 you will also have the serial number for it, it will be in your account.
I'm not sure if TI11 would actually work on a netbook, and if the netbook has Windows 7 on it shouldn't allow TI 11 to be installed.

Actually, I installed 2011 Netbook edition. I can boot up from the rescue disk but reading all the problems, here, I am afraid to try and restore the image.

I have TI 11 on a Vista Laptop, have used it on a couple occasions and it worked great.

Acronis has made some real errors with this latest edition that just make it unfriendly! For example, not remembering my backup location. All previous editions have gone directly to my preferred backup location and automatically generated a new file name. I don't understand why they would have changed this.
