TI Upgrade requires Old Serial Number
Problem:
- An upgrade needs something to upgrade from.
- The upgrade removes the previous product.
Solution:
- Reinstall the original product, then upgrade.
- Seagate DiscWizard and Maxtor MaxBlast are both still available, still free, here (http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=internal-downlo…).
Background:
- I upgraded from TI 11 to 2010, hated it so uninstalled until it's debugged.
- Reinstalling TI 11 revealed this problem.
- Forum and Knowledge Base searches proved it's a known problem.
- Ilya privately furnished a solution to a poster.
Opinion: Private solutions, without explanation, have no place on public forums.
Suggestion: See Seagate forums here (http://forums.seagate.com/stx/) for effective forum examples.

Hi Ilya,
I do have the exact problem like the one you describe:
My True Image Home 2010 Installation wants the old serial from Disc Wizard which I don't have.
Do you have an idea what I can do now?
Thank you
Markus

Hi Robert,
thanks for your fast reply. The Problem is that I want to install trueImage on a new HDD not from Seagate (so Disk Wizard can't be installed first)
So seems like somehow I have to get a serial for DiskWizard, but according to Seagate there is none??
Thank you
Markus

I installed DiskWizard to my Western Digital drive.

Markus,
As Robert just said, you should be able to install to a non Seagate drive, if you have a Western Digital drive, then you could try downloading the WD version of Disk Wizard, it is based on, but not quite the same as TIH 2009.
The serial numbers are embedded into the installer(s) for these products.

Hi you two!
Thank you for your replies, the problem is that I have a ocz ssd and neither the WD Version nor the Seagate Version want to install on that particular disk. I contacted Seagate, but the assured me it's not their problem and Acronis support wants me to buy a support ticket before answering any questions :-( Really not a good way to go...so I turned to the forums :-)
Thank you for any suggestions!
Greetings
Markus

You may also be able to connect a USB drive and use it to allow the install (if it's a Seagate or WD drive). I've done this before in testing.

Ask Acronis to replace your upgrade serial numbers with full ones:

Hi MudCrab,
connecting a usb drive from Seagate doesn't work either, I have 3 HDD's from Seagate laying around and I can't install Disk Wizard on my laptop, isn't this ironic :-)
Hi Ed,
I will definitely consider this, but it seems like i still have to buy a support ticket? I will investigate further.
Thank you
Markus

Hello all,
Thank you very much for your posts and I really appreciate all your help!
Markus, I will do my best to assist you.
I would like to offer the following workaround. Since this is more of a hardware change issue, I can request a full serial number for you from our Management team and if it is approved by them, you will need to purchase a Service handling fee which is 10$. I would very much appreciate if you could share your thoughts with me about it and let me know, so that we can begin the process. I can provide all the details as soon as I hear from you.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

Hi Anton,
thank you for your reply. For now I am thinking about buying a pcmcia esata adapter, that would help me to connect a sata HDD from seagate to my laptop.
But I will write you if I decide to get a Full Serial (although I never knew when I upgraded that I acquired a "Half" Serial)
Thank you
Markus
