TI2012 Deletes the wrong archives

Thread needs solution

I am a long long time user of ATI Home and I have seen many issues created with each new release but this is a first. I upgraded from 2011 to 2012 and then went in to ASZ to review all archives. I used the "explore backups" selection and was presented with a time line of all full and differential backups. I selected the oldest backup, right clicked and selected "delete version". ATI 2012 actually deleted the most recent version rather than the one I had selected. I tried again making sure I had right clicked on the oldest version (about two months back) and it again deleted the remaining Youngest version. THey disappeared from the timeline so I rebooted and checked again ... yep still gone.
Please acknowledge the problem and indicate when a fix might be available.

My system is Windows 7 - Ultimate (64 bit) running with a raid 1 array.

i reported this bug during u1 beta testing. i had not been fix. best to not trust 2012's version management functions. they are flaky at best.

I think you will also find that if you do incremental archives and a new full after (n) incrementals, when it comes to automatic consolidation, it will delete all the incrementals belonging to the oldest full backup leaving that to be removed when space next becomes an issue.

So depending on how often you do your backups and how long you keep them for, you can lose a considerable amount of good backup data.

I think that this is done to save time when consolidating but it is hardly the way one would expect it to work IMHO.

Yes, this always happens to me too.

Seems like a very basic bug, and could have serious consequences. This problem has been in the product for a long time now.

The web site tells me I have to pay if I want to report a problem, so I won't bother to do that.

I'm not sure I trust this software at all!

i did submit this as a bug during u1 beta. it was never fixed. when the 30-days expired, my shop's interest in 2012 also expired -- paying to help Acronis fix bugs is beyond contempt. our shop reverted to the last release of 2011.

Thanks for that information.

Sounds like you made a good decision!
