TI2013 crashes on attempted Windows 8 install

Thread needs solution

Just downloaded a trial copy of TI2013 and attempted (several times) to install it on my Acer Iconia W510 running windows 8. It crashes with an application exception every time. It does get far enough to create a shortcut on the desktop and to attempt to initiate the scheduling service (at least I get a notice on the desktop that the scheduling service has failed to run).

I'm logged on to an administrator account, have killed all user programs, and turned off Windows Defender prior to the attempted install, all to no avail. Any other suggestions?

Try extracting the MSI installer from the Acronis wrapper. Run the installer to the install menu selection, right click on install and select 'extract'. Close the Acronis installer and try running the MSI one that will now be in the folder as well.

RTM,

It certainly installed OK on my W8 system, but my W8 is W8 Pro 64 bit installed as a VHD. As you are getting an installation problem I suspect there has to be another utilities files interfering with the install.

What are the utilites Acer provide with their machines?

Error code 2860 means the installation cancel button text file is corrupted, whether this means the MSI installer (part of Windows) is the problem or if it is the installer file you have. Do you have anything else that uses the MSI installer that you can test against?

The MD5 for 2013 English version is c05183bbcc111520e89c8c4b28d2e2ff.

You might need to get Acronis involved so they can see the error dump file and see what is causing the problem.

Are you downloading an English language version of the trial?

In the meantime if you're feeling brave you could try the following.

1. Disable your firewall temporarily.

2. Right click on either of the installer packages and select 'Run as Admin'

3. If you get as far as the installer starting and then failing, find the MSI log file that will be in your C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Local folder\temp (win button +r type in %temp% ).

4. Remove the serial number form the log file (it is just a plain text file) if it appears and post it here as that will give a pointer as to what is upsetting the installer.

Colin,

I've disabled all security functions and run the installation as administrator. The only additional info in the MSI log file (besides the 2860 error message quoted above) is:

"The arguments are: RegDisagreeDlg, ,"

There's also an Acronis installer log preceding the MSI log that reports its progress to the point where I extracted the MSI file rather than let it do the installation. The only potentially useful info in there is:

log uuid='"" product="True Image" version="16.0" build="5551" task_name="Acronis Installer"

and that log ends with

module="100" code="0" time="_______" message="Acronis Installer Exited"

The Acronis installer log from an earlier attempt, where I let the Acronis Installer do the install, is identical to the above except that it ends:

module="100" code="0" time="_______" message="Starting install operation"

This installation ended with an app crash by the installer (no more log entries). FWIW, the Windows 8 event log reports that TrueImageMonitor.exe faulted in the runtime lib MSVCR80.dll to cause the crash.

Does Acronis read this forum? If not, how would you suggest I contact them?

--RTM

MSVCR80.dll is a Microsoft file, unfortunately being a distributable many programs provide their own version and once one of those versions becomes corrupted it can interfere with other copies of the file from a Windows point of view.

What is the MSVCR80 faulting code?

Microsoft have a database of faulting problems caused by this DLL.

Try changing the compatibility mode to W7 32 bit under properties.

If you register your serial number, you will see in your account a Support option.

Sounds very similar to the issue we have with our Samsung Ativ 500T Windows 8 Intel Tablet :)

Seems like the eMMC / non-SATA harddrive doesnt work with TI2013. Also Ti2013 Boot CD / USB doesnt work with these devices..

I now use the native Windows 8 system backup tool which can create full backups. Still I would like to use TI2013 instead...
Contacted support about that specific issue - will report back if they reply.

I had the same problem on Win7 SP1 except that I could not get past the first installer screen when the install failed and the message "system was unable to find the specified file" appeared. I tried the above suggestion of extracting the msi installer, closed the Acronis installer, double clicked in the msi file and everything worked like a charm. The Plus package then installed in the normal fashion. Many thanks for the tip.

News from my side - I finally could install TI2013 on my Samsung Ativ 500!

Crazy enough the trick was to disable automatic activation + ACTIVATE my Gdata Anti Virus!
With Gdata Antivirus disabled it always crashed during install.

Never saw such a behavior as it usually is the opposite :)

Still doesnt solve the problem with not being able to boot from TI USB on this Intel Clover Trail based tablet.

True Image 2013 would not install on my Acer W510 tablet with Windows 8. The computer shut down about halfway thru the install on more than one attempt. True Image technical help could not find the problem It appears that the program is not compatible on Acer tablets with the Intel Atom processor and storage drive.
