Transfer Backup to Raid 1 Array

Thread needs solution

I want to setup a Raid 1 array but I have seen nothing how to go from my none Raid computer to the revised computer configuration that is Raid. The Raid array is based off the Marvel Raid console. According to the instructions on setting up the Raid array the data on both harddrives is destroyed. The Rescue disk does not recognize the 6 Gig hardrives but does recognize them as 3.0 Gig drives when I restored my backup. Some guidance please.

You will not be able to easily restore a non-RAID to a RAID, unless you have a controller that allows you to migrate. Some controllers allow this if you are in AHCI mode, and then move to RAID 1. Moving to RAID 0 always results in the destruction of the data.

If I were in your situation, I would go for a clean reinstall.

If a clean install is not an option, I would try to restore the non-raid Image on the RAID 1 with the bootable CD anyway. If this succeeds (meaning the CD can see your RAID 1 as a single volume to restore to), you will probably get a blue screen when you boot. You can then try to repair reinstall Windows. If this works, you will save the time to reinstall your apps and content.

If this hack doesn't work, you might want to try with Universal Restore. This requires the Plus Pack. After you have installed the Plus Pack, you have to create a new recovery medium, and start a recovery from the medium. When you do the restore, you have the Universal Restore option. That requirest that you indicate the path for ATI to find the RAID drivers. This is not guarrantee to work, but it might be worth the cost of trying instead of having to reinstall everything.
