Transfering Disk backup images between drives - TI 2013

Thread needs solution

I'd always thought TI 2013 backup images could be copied and moved between disk drives without problems e.g to create more space on a drive or perhaps move an image from a network device to a usb drive to perform a restore.
A recent attempt to perform a restore with such a file failed - the restore process just didn't recognise the file as a valid image.
Fortunately the backup file was still on the original usb drive that was used for the backup and worked perfectly ok to perform the restore.
Does anyone know of any limitations like this or why this process doesn't work ?
I regularly use backups to network drives and have naively thought if I ever needed them they could just be copied to a usb drive and used for a restore.
Perhaps I need to re think this strategy ?

kgee,
If you still have the moved backup in its moved position, try validating the image (when booted from the T I Recovery CD) and see if it will validate. My guess is that validation will fail due the a less than perfect file transfer from original source to it current moved location. I interpret the failure to be loss of file integrity.

My experience has been similar to what you expected it to be. The moved file has always restored for me. I never use Windows to make the move but use a copy program such as Karen's Replicator which performs ongoing checks about the validity of the copy function.

I have always thought it prudent to CD validate any move of backup files.
