True Image 2010 support for Ext4
In the old forum, the mod said that TI 2010 would support the Ext4 file system. The 2010 product manual shows Ext3 support but not Ext4. Is the manual wrong?

I've been waiting for ext4 support to upgrade since the new FS went stable in the kernel. Very sad to hear if it didn't make it into the new version. Would be nice to hear from a mod what the current status is.

Thanks Kurliana and Matt for the responses. My current linux install uses the ext3 file system, and I intend to stay with that until True Image is upgraded to accomodate ext4. I tried some of the other linux imaging programs that do support ext4--such as clonezilla--but I have been a True Image user since version 6 and don't want to switch. Hopefully the moderator will have some information for us before too long.

It's been almost a month since my original post, and I wondered if there was any new information on ext4 support.

I am using Acronis True Image and Disc Director for several years now in several versions. My system dual boots Windows and Linux. Last week I updated Ubuntu to 09.10 which uses the ext4 filesystem as default. I am impressed by its design and speed. However I have learned that I cannot use my Acronis software any longer to backup and manage my hdd partitions.
I am hoping for an update. In the meantime I am looking for other programs that perform better. It is a mystery to me, why Acronis is more willing to lose their customers than to keep their software up to date to support new popular filesystems.

I'm in the same boat as Ulrich, dual booting and I'm seeing more and more do the same with the ease of Ubuntu 9.10. I've now switched to clonezilla and Drive Image XML. Acronis has had decent products, hopefully they can catch up with some of the great free ones...

Hello all,
I regret to inform you that currently Acronis products do not support the ext4 file system. However, the ext4 file system support will be implemented in future updates Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 and Acronis True Image Home 2010. Unfortunately, I can't provide you with the approximate time when this will be implemented.
I'll keep you posted since I have more information about this issue.
Thank you.

it seems 2011 doesn't support any ext system, neither ext3 nor ext4 anymore?

Chris,
2011 does support Ext4 partitions, but only as whole disk/partition images to an NTFS or FAT32 based disk.
Mounting or searching via Explorer isn't supported.

Colin, I guess that's a "raw" image. Every file system is "supported" that way, isn't it?

No. It's not a "sector-by-sector" backup that is good for all file systems but doesn't allow resize. You can resize ext4 and free sectors will not be backed up, but file-level access from the trueimage is restricted.

Oh, great. Then I will upgrade. I thought they mentioned on their website ntfs and fat only...
